BUD GULLICKSON
Bud was born June 9, 1908 at Clarksfield, Minnesotta to Henry and Tena(Johnson) Gullickson. His father Henry was a farmer and passed away in his twenties of tuberculosis, very common at the time. His mother remarried in 1921 to Henry Le Roy Hamblock, known as Le Roy. Le Roy's wife, Jeanette, died as the result of childbirth of their second child. Jeanette passed away due to complicatons of childbirth. Tena and Jeanette were sisters.
Bud had three other brothers: Clifford (1), Charles, Henry Le Roy "Hank", Donald Hamblock along with three sisters: Rosemary (2), Doris and Margaret by 1931.
One time Bud came to the farm made up like a black man asking for food, maybe some work. Charles showed him all around the place, giving the man a good time. It wasn't until some years later that Charles found out it was his own brother Bud, the prankster.
JOSEPHINE "JO" RASMUSSEN
"Jo" was born 10 - 25 1912 to Emmanuel and EmmaRasmussen north of Havre. She attended Amos rural school north of Havre. She had 3 brothers; Harry, Bud, and Martin, and 5 sisters: Anna, Esther, Margaret, Helen and Lillian.
Bud and Jo married 2 - 28 - 1931 in Shelby, Montana. They first lived north of Havre then moved to Big Sandy in 1933. Three children blessed the union of Bud and Jo : Betty Ann born 10 - 22 - 1931, Birdeen ("Cliff") Clifford born 6 - 19 - 1935 , and Gaynell Joy born 2 - 1 - 1947
. Bud worked as implement dealer and mechanic for International Harvester. He bought the business in 1940 and after 20 years sold it. Jo ground valves and was Bud's "parts man"
Bud even ventured into politics; he was the Mayor of Big Sandy at one time. He was the first president of the Big Sandy Medical Association and past president of the Big Sandy Rotary of which he never missed a meeting. He served on the Havre Deaconess Hospital board. Bud and Jo cared very much about their community and people in general.
Jo was a member of the Order Of The Eastern Star, A.C.L.W. and Christ Lutheran Church, all in Big Sandy. At one time she worked at A & P Cleaners.
In 1959 Bud bought the Grande Theater in Big Sandy, operating it until 1969 when it was destroyed by fire. After that he began and continued farming until being taken ill.
Bud and Jo were notorious for spoiling kids; nephew or niece you always had a good time at Uncle Bud and Aunt Jo's house. It was almost like being at home. Bud played the piano and was good at it. He did it all by ear; he didn't read music. He had his rock shop out back of the house where he made everything from beautiful cut rocks to coffee tables which I'm sure the rocks were hand picked for whomever it went to.
Mere words can't come near to describing Bud and Jo, you had to know them!
