EULOGY FOR BERNARD J. CRUMMY

My name is Ron Anderson, I am married to Bernard's daughter Alicia.   On behalf of the family I would like to thank all of you who have shown acts of kindness this past week and especially to the Leo Crummy family & Patrick Crummy for their support over the years.

I will just say a few things to remember Bernard. It is difficult at this time of loss, but there really is a lot to be happy about as we think of his life.

I was the first to marry into the Crummy family & will always remember feeling welcomed by my father-in-law. Of course we had a lot in common with our interest in farming. I admired his farming style, not many acres but a nice line of equipment.

Around 1983, I worked as an apprentice with Bernard during beet harvest. After driving truck for many days he finally let me run the lifter. In a short time I got off the row & ended up with a strip of 3 rows.   When harvesting with a 4-row lifter I knew this was a big mistake, & was expecting the worst. But as we all know Bernard never got too upset about things, he  just chuckled & said, "Well Ron, you've got to learn sometime"

It was always interesting to me how Bernard could do all the farming by himself and yet still needed notes from Frances in his lunch kit to remind him which sandwich to eat for dinner & which one for afternoon lunch.

I always appreciated how he would write a personal note in a birthday or anniversary card. He didn't always say it in words but we all knew how proud he was of his children & grandchildren. He was always faithful at attending
his grandchildren's school programs, skating shows, dance recitals & sporting events. Even going so far as to sit with the Wolfpack fans to support his grandson, when they played the Storm.

I think we can all learn something from the way Bernard lived. He was successful at farming & raising a family without a lot of outward anxiety or stress.  You could tell by being around him that he had a strong faith in
God, by the way he quietly took life as it came.

He was content with his life, where he lived  & the way things were. He enjoyed the simple things in life,

Like:

A neatly kept yard
Sunday afternoon crop tours
Picking up the mail
Playing Yattzee & cards with the grandkids
Paying the bills on time
A good farm discussion at the Creamery
The right hat for any occasion
A drive through the farm implement lot
Reading the paper
Singing harmony
Straight seeding, plowing & cultivating
Dressing up for church
Oldsmobile's
Apple pie with a slice of cheese on top
Neatly mowed roadsides

We all have some kind of flaws in our personalities, but it is difficult for me to see that Bernard had any. We couldn't have asked for a more gentle, kind & loving husband, father, grandfather and father-in-law. He has left us many wonderful memories, family ties & examples to live by. Good bye Bernard, we love you & will miss you always. We know that you are now in Heaven & look forward to being with you again someday.
