Article from the Messenger:Word was recieved here, recently, of the death of Lenora Whalen Kirpatrick, the last surviving member of Stephen's pioneer Whalen family. Mrs. Kirpatrick died, July 15, 1997 at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, near New Berry Springs, California. She was 99 years, 8 months.

Funeral Mass was at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, in Barstow, Calif. on July 19, 1997, with Fr. Joseph Borba officiating. Pall bearers were six great-grandsons. Internment was in San Jacinta, California.
Lenora A. Nora Whalen, was the daughter of John and Mary (Hughes) Whalen, who came to Stephen in 1878. She was born November 13, 1897 at the family home in Sinnott Township, Marshall County, Minnesota. She attended the District #97 school, near her home, and then graduated from Stephen High School in 1915. She attended Teachers Collage at Valley City, North Dakota, and taught in rural schools of Minnesota and Montana.
On June 24, 1925, she was united in marriage to C.F. "Frank" Kirpatrick, of Vida, Montana, at St.. Stephen's Church in Stephen, Minnesota. They lived in Montana and farmed for several years: then moved to Wolf Point, Mt, in 1932 when Frank was hired by the U.S. Post Office there. Nora worked at the Neutgens Family Store and at the City Office, in Wolf Point. Upon retirement, in 1966, they bought a trailer home and travled, seeing their children, spending winters at Hemet, California., and summers at Deer Lake, Washington. Folowing Frank's death, in 1970, she moved to Hemet, California. In later years, this very active lady kept house for a son until she was 97. In 1994, she moved to New Berry Springs.
Survivors include three daughters, Dorthy Stoval, of Glasgow, Montana, Jean (Mrs. Ed-mund "Bill") Naasz, of New Berry Springs and Rose Long, of Mead, Washington: also two sons, Robert Kirpatrick, of New Berry Springs and William, of Olympia, Washing-ton. Also surviving are 24 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grand-child, and many nieces and nephews, including Frances Crummy of rural Warren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three sons, Patrick, in infancy John and Gerald James, five sisters, five brothers and one foster brother.
