JOHNNY AND MARY ANN FAMILY

 

Johnny and Mary Annwere married, February 22, 1892, in Stephen, Minnesota, at her home, which was upstairs over her father's drug store. Rev. Father John Walsh officiated. Attendants were Johnny's sister, Maggie Whalen, and his friend, Will Russell.After the wedding, the newly-weds and the groom's foster son, Rosslyn "Rossie"McCullough, a boy of 12 years, lived first in the little house where Johnny and sister Maggie had homesteaded. It was the NE 1/4 of section 8 in Sinnott Township, Marshall County, Innester. Later that spring they moved to Johnny's other land on the NW 1/4 of the same section. Rossie lived with them until he was 18 years of age.

The Whalen's were parents of 10 children; two of whom died ininfancy, John Edmund, in 1902: and Julian in 1905.

James, born December 19, 1892: Luke, born August 2, 1894: Catherine, born March 7, 1896: Lenora,born November 13, 1897: Alice, born 22, 1899: Frances, born August 11, 1901: Margaret: born September 24, 1903: and William,born March 19, 1907. In March 1919, they opened their hearts andhome to an adopted daughter, Irene, then about four years old. She had come from a foundling home in NewYork.
