Looking for some
of that good old-fashioned Texas blues guitar? Well get off your high horse
and step up to one of the modern masters of the craft. Johnny Winter has
established himself as one of the greatest Lone Star State guitar slingers
of our time. Raised in Beaumont, Texas, Winter started performing at the
tender age of 14, fronting his own band, Johnny and the Jammers. Soon after,
he spent a good amount of time playing in various groups with his brother,
Edgar, and eventually hit the road headed for Chicago, where he spent time
cruising the club circuit. In 1969, Winter burst onto the national scene
with The Johnny Winter Story. The album's success was fueled by Rolling
Stone Magazine, who called Winter "the hottest thing outside of Janis Joplin."
Since then, Winter has continued as a major purveyor of the Texas blues.
His recordings never waiver in their devotion to the traditions of men
like Muddy Waters, Son House and Robert Johnson.
